The Cabot Room is named for John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto), the Italian navigator and explorer, who under charter for King Henry VII of England was the first documented European to visit Bonavista. Generations of Newfoundlanders were taught in grade school that in 1497, John Cabot “discovered Newfoundland”. His voyages and discovery were celebrated in 1997 with a recreation of the ‘discovery voyage’ and a visit to Bonavista by Queen Elizabeth II. The original owner of the Lancaster Inn, Calvin G Ryder, chaired the Committee that planned the 1997, 500-year anniversary of John Cabot’s landfall. This room has a Queen bed with sitting area, mini fridge, and private ensuite with tub/shower.
