The Matthew Suite is named for John Cabot’s 50 ton, 78 foot Caravel the Matthew—that generations of Newfoundlanders learned in grade school—was sailed from Bristol, England, to Newfoundland, making landfall at Cape Bonavista on June 24th, 1497 (traditionally known as Discovery Day). In 1997 a replica of the Matthew, built in Bristol, England, was welcomed to Bonavista by Queen Elizabeth II. A second replica of the Matthew was built in Bonavista in 1996/97 and may be viewed at the Matthew Legacy in Bonavista Harbour. This suite offers a Queen bed, jacuzzi tub, fireplace, and sitting area, as well a private ensuite with shower.
